It's an OK deal.... Dye's already 33, so that works against him, plus it's odd that he was good in 2005, great in 2006, and has been mediocre so far this year. I guess if anything this shows that established players are not at all cheap to come by. I'd think that I'd rather have. It's about what Byrnes got -1 year, Dye is more established, but Byrnes is younger...

Apparently Ken Williams decided to scrap the rebuilding project. Resigning Dye and Buehrle indicates that he's definitely going for it in '08 (he may also re-up Vazquez). Now he's going to have to do some work this winter and make this team a contender in the Central again. He needs to: a) figure out what to do about that bullpen, which looked so dominant in the early going before falling apart; b) get a real leadoff hitter, since Podsednik is too unreliable and c) hope for better luck. I think the Sox still have the offense and starting pitching to compete with anyone in the division, they just need a few tweaks.

LF, CF, 2B, and SS are the positions more needed in the Sox.
A leadoff hitter and someone that can preprare the table for the power hitting guys (Iguchi) is what they need.
Also, some more established arms on the bullpen, because most of them are young flame throwers with lil command. Although I like the signings that Kenny did for the bullpen.
A helathy season from Thome and resurgence from Dye and Konerko are musts.
Re-signing Vazquez is almost a lock for me.
We'll see what happens.

I'm thinking this was a pretty good deal for the Sox as well. They're really not that far off from being a playoff caliber squad, and this seems a bit under market value to me anyway.

I thought Vasquez was already signed.
Pretty sure they signed him to a three year deal before the season.

My bad. What i meant was Re-signing Garland and not trading Vasquez.
