Draft help

Postby cartman1_24 » Sat Feb 14, 2004 9:10 pm

I have the fourth overall pick in the second year of a 3 year keeper league. I have Zito, Vazquez, Gagne, Abreu and Tejada. It looks as if I'll have the choice of either: Sexson, Smoltz, Huff, Posada, Blalock or Foulke. My heart tells me Sexson or Huff but with Smoltz there I believe he is the best player available. Should I take Smoltz, do the draft and see what I need? Then I could trade from strength. My problem is I know all will be gone before I come up again. I need some opinions please...

Since you've already got three pitchers (good ones at that), I'd concentrate on hitting this pick and probably the next few. One common strategy is to keep a 2:1 hitting:pitching ratio throughout the draft, so by that theory, the next four guys you take should all be hitters. I really like Sexson, and would select him over the other guys.

I'd take either Sexson or maybe Posada. Richie is going to have a monster year and I believe Posada is the best fantasy catcher this time around.

I think Sexson will like hitting in AZ, you might want to look at the other teams, though, first base is a deep position, and maybe he can slide to you in another round, if the other teams have already solidified the position. I love Smoltz and always have a hard time letting him slide in most drafts. But I think Sexson is probably a better bet.

Ya, I'd go with Sexson over the others.

I agree take Sexson..
There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.
