Cust has had a couple of good games to begin spring training. I realize that doesn't mean anything whatsoever, but his numbers from last year scream 30 HRs 100 RBI for 2008 and no one seems to be talking about him. With his spot in the line up and a full time gig are 35-40 home runs possible? I honestly don't know much about this guy so tell me if you think last year was a fluke.

Well, the power is certainly no fluke...in a full season I wouldn't be surprised to see Cust have 35/100 at all with a bunch of walks...the problems are that it will come with absolutely no speed, a bad average that is detrimental, and not a good runs output either in the bad A's lineup

As an Adam Dunn-lite, I can see where this guy could be attractive...but he's not really proven, and the fact that he really only produces in 2 of the 5 standard cats makes him seem like a guy you don't want to put a lot of stock in
Why don't they just get a house that's already painted?

Some experts have him down for 25-30/100/.250.

I think he has the potential for 35/100 with .900+ OPS.

Just depends on how the OF/DH mess is sorted out. It will be playing time, not ability, that could scuttle Cust this year.

I don't think last year was a fluke for Cust. As a prospect, he was known for having good power upside. You could think of him as an Adam Dunn lite but hitting in a graveyard for flyballs half of the year in Oakland and amidst a lineup that's built for working counts and hitting for solid contact.

Can you imagine what he might do if he got to play half his games in that Cincinnati park like Dunn gets too?

According to athleticsnation.com, Cust added 27 pounds of muscle this offseason and seems to be really motived. He could be a surprise guy this season if he gets the playing time. I'm of the mind that he will.

i drafted him in an auction league for $8 that counts OBP over AVG and i'm thinkin i got a steal...i dont see why he wont be playing full time as an OF/DH and as we saw last year hes got the power...pretty much the model "Three True Outcomes" player, all he does is walk, K or HR

his power has always been there,
i'm fairly comfortable with him on my team as adam dunn jr.

his OBP should make up for his slow, terrible baserunning skills.
i don't see why he couldn't touch 80-90 runs.
