1st CLOSER to LOSE their job?

Postby kemper5 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 11:43 pm

I say is Borowski.. Man he looked ugly today and got beat up bad.. I say ole' 5.00 ERA Joe loses his job 1st.. How much confidence can you have in a guy that post these ERA's over the last 4 years..To me he's the worst closer in baseball.

Yeah Jones is pretty bad too.. It's a toss up.. Today Borowski had a stellar 1 IP, 4 Hits, 3 ER and 1 BB.. It's was really ugly.

Whoever gets the job in Texas, Lidge or Percival. Percival is my long shot but I don't have much faith in him even though there isn't anybody to take his place. I think he's gonna stink and they're going to have to find somebody.

I think Jones is the worst closer in baseball. At least Borowski has a chance to K people. Jones makes the batter put the ball in play which is not what you want in the 9th. I think the first person to lose their job will be Brandon Lyon.

I'll nominate Kevin Gregg as the sleeper pick, he gives up a ton of walks, has a FB% over 50, and induces fewer grounders than Borowski. That's quite the volatile mix. :-o

Lol... did you see Jones' performance on Wednesday (against Houston)???

1 IP
5 H
1 BB
6 ER

Blows Borowski's gas-can antics out the window.

But, for closers losing their job early, I'm going to go into the head-case/injury realm rather than the bad-closer realm.

BJ Ryan coming back from TJ after 10 months... bad idea.
Lidge closing anywhere... bad idea.
Howry/Wood/Marmol.... looks more like closer-by-commitee.
Gagne... can he get back to form?
Corpas... stole Fuentes' job last year after just one or two bad outings. Could they swap back after a couple more?

But, if you're looking for MRs who are draft-worthy because of a shaky closer in front of them, Betancourt still has my vote. Accardo has competition, Turnbow is sketchy, and the rest of the guys mentioned don't have nearly the same stats as Betancourt.

Lets say Todd Jones stinks it up bad, who closes? It won't be Rodney, Ive read where he has just tossed on flat ground and may not get into a game for a while with a sore shoulder..Who is it then?

What about Hoffman?

He did not look good at the end of last year, and Bell is a monster.

Even if he regresses severely, I don't think San Diego will remove him from the closer role.
