Why is Tejada going so late?

Postby pat189 » Thu Mar 06, 2008 6:31 pm

I've been targeting Tejada in every draft, he is going in like the 6th-7th round which I think is awesome value for him.

Is everyone expecting a big decline or something? He wasn't even bad last year, if he played the full season he would have had around 100 rbi and 22 hr. I think the change to houston will be good for him...

Nice ESPN article here http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseb ... =MLB30qhou

Thoughts?

I think he will put up similar numbers to Tulowitzki

I think he'll bounce back a little from '07, but will take the under on Tulowitzki's numbers. Keep in mind that the Oriole offense was not that bad last year. Tejada was hitting behind Markakis and Roberts last year. He's not going to get a bump from either park or team offense or playing against weaker pitching. He's a year older, and yes, 31 yearold players decline. The one bump I think he will get is that he will be a little healthier.

And, as for the September effect, I don't think Houston will be any more in the hunt for the crown than the Orioles have been the last few years....unless they suddenly recruit Clemens and Pettite again.

I have not really been targeting him, but I would take him 6-7 round, because he is the kind of guy who could end up giving up 2nd 3rd round value.

is there a chance he might spend part of the season in jail?

Well people are showing caution with Mitchell Report players. He is certainly a high reward type guy, and the risk on a 6th round pick is minimal.

Somehow he dropped to the #95 pick in my draft, where I gladly snagged him as my starting shortstop.

I've got him for 20-100-.300 or thereabouts, which is great value at SS for where he is going.

He does go around round 7, but I *do* think that that is too risky a spot to pick him. Issues with the Mitchell report and potential perjury case are one thing, and a decrease in power is certain (not necessarily using last year as a yardstick -- he was awful last year so why bother comparing there). I take Michael Young instead of him hands down.

I say round 7 is a risk because of the players (especially pitchers) you can get there instead of him. If I miss out on the guys before Tejada, I wait quite late to grab an endgame SS.
