I think it's a good move. He knows how to find and develop talent. I'm a happy man. :-)

Link.

I don't know much about him but the timing of the announcement is very odd.

Who?

I see the M's trying to make a splash in an attempt to overshadow the WS.

I don't know if he is the guy I would have hired, but I'm hoping that since they hired the candidate with the best experience with minor league talent it's a sign they're going into rebuilding mode. Which I do like.

I have no idea how to say his name though.

Is it custom to announce these things after the World Series?

A fantastic move for Seattle, in my opinion. Jack was the primary reason behind the Brewers' recent success I think. Doug Melvin has done a nice job swinging a few trades and making a few scrap heap signings, but the core of this team is homegrown and has been built with sustained success in mind. Gallardo (2nd round), Parra (26th), Weeks (1st), Hardy (2nd), Fielder (1st), Braun (1st), and Hart (11th) were all Jack Z picks. Matt Laporta and Mike Brantley, the 2 key pieces in the Sabathia trade, were Jack Z picks. And there are more exciting prospects on the way in Mat Gamel, Jeremy Jeffress, Brett Lawrie, Alcides Escobar, and so on. He definitely seems to have an eye for young talent. Sucks to lose him, but a much deserved promotion.

Oh, and it's pronounced "zur-EN-sik" :-b

From the number of people I saw pull out of the race, I'm surprised they got anyone of note.

I read the other day the race was Kim Ng and scraps. Obviously she didn't float their boat.

I hope Zduriencik does an extreme make over, they're always fun to watch. ;-D

Tony LaCava was on the list, a Blue Jays assistant GM. He's known as a pretty good talent evaluator. It probably would have been beneficial for him to get away from JP, because JP doesn't seem like the type of person that asks for anybody's input on moves often.

LaCava was 5th on this list, and the guy who was hired with a bunch of consonants in his name was 2nd: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/artic ... cleid=7683
