Can you win by punting ERA/WHIP?

I wouldn't try it, because there's no guarantee that you'll be top 2 in all hitting categories. Remember, so many things change from the pre-season, in every sport.

And, like someone else said, saves are extremely unpredictable. Even stud closers can lose their minds at any time.

In a roto 5x5 league, if you came in 2nd in every offensive category (possible if you REALLY went for it) and finished 2nd in K, SV, and W (quite tough if you really went really big on bats), you'd still only end up with 90 points in what I think is close to a best case scenario. That COULD be enough to win a competitive league, but its not a lock by any stretch.

Punting strategies will usually get you a high finish. They will very rarely get you a first.

A perfectly executed double punt will lose to a well-rounded team every time.

I would never go into a draft planning to punt a category, much less two, because you never know where value is coming. I might punt steals or saves if the price for them was ridiculous in a particular league, but I haven't had to try it yet.

There is generally a strong correlation between Ks and WHIP/ERA. I would be surprised if there are many guys with a high K rate around at the end of the draft. Plus, I have doubts that you would do very well in Ws (unless it is a strange format with no IP limit). A team of Daniel Cabreras and Gio Gonzalezes is not going to win the W cat.

The only punting I have seen work is saves, and that is really tough to make work and takes some luck to succeed.

Punting is not good in football, and fantasy bb.

I'm not sure punting is the right word, but in H2H leagues I tend to ignore BA. I would have no problem with a team that has Sizemore, Dunn, Reynolds and Weeks on it.

I have seen owners ignore SB's and some have done very well.
