is this a chance to sell him before it becomes confirmed?

if he becomes quarantined, he could miss the season.

um . . . no

PITTSBURGH -- An unnamed member of the Mets' traveling party is in isolation at a Pittsburgh hospital with a possible case of swine flu, the team revealed today.

The person is part of the SNY broadcast crew -- a producer, according to sources -- that travels with the club.

Along those lines, Carlos Beltran is not at PNC Park and will miss his third straight game with a stomach illness, although at this point the Mets think he is suffering from a gastrointestinal virus and not swine flu.

Beltran missed two games last week with a brusied tibia, then after playing a full game left Saturday's contest at Citi Field with the stomach problem. He has not played since.

Pitcher John Maine left his latest start on Sunday after six innings due to stomach problems.

He doesn't have swine flu symptoms. He just has a stomach virus.

But missing the season?? That is ludicrous. And all signs point to him not having swine flu (media reports indicate that he hasn't run a fever) and Maine is already recouping from his bout with it. It's probably just a bad stomach virus.

And for the record, that report is still hearsay until it comes back that this guy actually has it. I'm willing to bet the mistake has been made before.

"Stomach Virus" is usually sports slang for having the runs.
