I need SB's

Postby sooner711 » Tue Mar 16, 2004 12:53 am

I'm in a cbs 10 team 5X5 roto league and need some SB's off of free agency. Is Dave Roberts worth a pickup? Who else should I be looking for? Hairston maybe...

If you need steals and Dave Roberts is available- than pick him up immediatly- he shoulds steal 40 bases this year. Hairston is a ?? mark because of his injury but he is still worht more than half the other 2B out there. Some sleeper canidates for steals would be

David Eckstein (had a bad year last year but could steal 30 if healthy and might be available ina 10 team league)

Coco Crisp (could lead off for an improved Indians club and may also be avaialble in a ten team league)

Tike Redmon (while I doubt he is available- you never know with only 50 OF's drafted)

Pokey Reese (While he will only hit around .240, his defense will keep him in the lineup and speed being his only real offensive threat- he could steal close to 30 bases)

Redman already picked up and Crisp is shown as a bench player on Rototimes...it shows Lawton leading off.

Agreed, Get Roberts Now

What about picking up Marlon Byrd? Some people seem pretty high on him this year...

Not that I go off of any one publication, but The Sporting News had Byrd ranked at like $26 so it is surprising that he is still available!

Agreed, Byrd should be on someone's roster. He's not going to give you monster steals like a Roberts tho. I've got Byrd pegged for hi-teens in SB but he doesn't kill you in everything else as Roberts almost certainly will. If I was going to get a speed only guy, I'd not want to waste an OF slot on him. Rivas, Hairston (seeing a hand specialist :-o) Willie Harris, Eckstein and Kennedy could give you 25ish from a weaker MI roster spot.
