Early composite position rankings (UPDATED 21 JAN)

Postby dannahann » Wed Dec 30, 2009 4:53 pm

To get an early feel on player valuation concensus I've been compiling any published rankings out so far. These aren't my own rankings, just an early look at what a compilation of several sources would look like. I've included Cafe sources like R&C's MDP and Tribe2012's excellent 1st post. Some of the rankings going into the composite might be a little dated (Nov) but I've updated those that have recently been updated like ESPN and CBS and a few others. In any event here what an averaged consensus 15 and 50 looks like:

Where would you rank Beckham as a 2B?

I'm not sure if you are asking me or not, but I would put him between 13 & 15 on my 2B list, mixed in somewhere with Uggla + Kendrick.

Beltran should NOT be the 22nd OF'er. CBS has him at 8. Which sites ranked him that low?

I'd actually put him in the 8-10 range, around Uggla and Lopez, but above players like Polanco and Weeks, who should not be in the top 10. I could see the argument for Weeks, but Polanco???

Four sources actually had Beltran worse than OF22. Espn, Dobber, Baseball Notebook, and Diamond Draft. CBS was especially bullish on him as you stated. I really think your MDP slot (OF12) will be pretty close once more sources get involved and updates are current. I think the Bay signing will bump him up. Again this is simply a compilation of very early rankings. Things will normalize I'm sure.

I totally agree, no way I am taking Polanco over Beckham. Here is my top 15 2B. When Beckham gains elgibility he would be in the top 15, probably 13th.

1 Utley, Chase
2 Kinsler, Ian
3 Pedroia, Dustin
4 Roberts, Brian
5 Phillips, Brandon
6 Cano, Robinson
7 Zobrist, Ben
8 Cabrera, Asdrubal
9 Hill, Aaron
10 Figgins, Chone
11 Stewart, Ian
12 Lopez, Jose
13 Uggla, Dan
14 Kendrick, Howie
15 Coghlan, Chris
