Dotel Signs With Pirates

Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Pirates have signed Octavio Dotel to a one year deal worth about $3 million along with a club option for 2011.

I don't see the point in paying a closer for a team that will be lucky to win 70 games. Maybe they can trade him for prospects later in the year.

Pittsburgh giving him one year and 3 million isn't terrible for a team without much talent, should get a nice prospect return in July if he doesn't totally suck. Houston's laughable Brandon Lyon contract and Detroit signing Valverde are examples of dumb closer moves.
