For my redraft I like the defaults with the following changes:
SP3
RP3
P3
DL2
IP max 1350.

For me this spreads out the pitching a little allowing for MR strategies for those that are interested. Not a fan of just one DL.

Having messed around with a lot of different league configurations I've found I'm not a fan of 2 C leagues, especially if you are having kind of deep reserves like that. The position is just too pathetic at the low end and injuries to your C are too hard to deal with. It isn't as large a concern in 12 team leagues but I find it terrible in 14 team leagues since there aren't even 28 full time catchers in baseball.

I'll never play a daily transactions league again, just personal taste. I'm a busy guy and I'm not able to check my lineups every single day right before games start and it just creates too many streaming pitcher headaches that aren't worth it. That is really more of a H2H concern than a Roto one. It might not sound like much but the 3-4 games at every position that I lose by not being able to babysit my lineups 24/7 have made me lose a few leagues.

I prefer DL slots to extra reserve slots so given your league setup I like the 2 DL more than just adding reserves. As to the number of reserves, I generally prefer more of them since it tends to lead to more trading as there is less talent sitting on the FA list and more sitting on players benches.

So has anyone ever limited weekly add/drops?

In the past, I have had owners who add/drop weekly like it is an addiction. I mean I understand 2,3 or even 4 a week, trying to get a good match up or the next "big thing" but doing it 5+ times per weeks gets old.

I do have owners in my 12 man complain that starting 2 C puts too much emphasis on C.

I think instead of MI & CI I might have 2 U spots, thoughts?

We use the two UT spots instead of Mi & CI and we also only use one catcher. I completely agree with Ender on that one. I've never understood the philosophy of going with two. I really like having the two DL spots as well. I don't think it's fair for a team to have to burn a bench spot or drop someone simply because they ran into a string of injuries.

One thing we also do that hasn't been mentioned is that we go with LF/CF/RF instead of 3 OF spots.

I totally agree with Ender on the 1 catcher versus 2 catcher league. I'm glad this thread was created because it shares so many common concerns among roto leagues. We all want a league setup that is fair for all, rewards owners for good drafts and good season decisions, but also gives owners a chance to move up the standings after a rocky start. Moreover, most owners do not sit at the computer all day ready to pounce on the perfect move, so we are thinking of limiting moves each half season to 6 drop/adds and 10 bench moves. Below is our roster.

12 man 5x5 ROTO Nonkeeper

C-1
1B-1
2B-1
SS-1
MI-1
3B-1
CI-1
OF-5
P-9

Bench-4 (any players)
Minors-2
DL-5
*Pitcher ratios - 7SP/2RP or 6SP/3RP

i like it deep, with CI, MI, 5 OFs, a lot of pitching slots, with about 1600-1650 ip limit.

Does anyone use 10-12 P spots. No mandatory RP or SP.
