Tejada back to the O's

Postby Montana168 » Sat Jan 23, 2010 2:48 pm

SS tejada is reportedly close to signing with his former team, the baltimore orioles. O's seem to be looking like a solid team this yr. they have a great foundation of young players with wieters, markakis, reimold, jones, matusz, tillman, etc. but now they also have a solid foundation of vets including brian roberts, tejada, garrett atkins and mike gonzalez. im sure i missed a few names there, but the O's seemed to have put together a solid offseason of low-key solid acquisitions.

tejada will also reportedly shift over to 3b and push atkins to first. solid move, lets hear everyone's opinion.

I'm confident that Atkins will have a good season but he's not a sure thing, and Tejada is 35 and I can't see him staying off the DL. Wigginton isn't very good and without everyday AB's I don't see him having a very productive season to say the least. Sort of an unsettling situation.

Just how bad were those dudes that an aging, weak fielding SS moving to third is going to be a marked improvement. 8-o

Tejada has had .710 road OPS his two seasons in Houston. That bandbox (for righties) is masking how much he has declined. He is still a solid addition but he's not as good as people think.

Tejada/Atkins has got to be in the bottom quartile of MLB CI combinations - I don't see how it is anything to get excited about. That said, $6M for '10 is not a bad investment considering the liability is capped at one year.

Yeah getting Tejada back is nice, but I don't see this as a great move. They need guys that are gonna influence their youth in the right direction. Garrett Atkins? No.

I think this is an intriguing fantasy move. Sure Tejada is old and his defense is in decline, but who cares? He has a clear path to a starting 3B position that happens to be incredibly shallow this year. After the first 5 or 6 3B, it's a total crapshoot. Tejada could be a nice late-round bargain if he gains 3B eligibility.

2 questions come to mind when evaluating the fantasy value of this move. 1) Where does he hit in the lineup? , and 2) Will he play everyday?

I would imagine he hits either 6th or 7th, and he really has only had 1 season where he didn't play at least 150 games (I think...). He could deliver a .290 avg with 15 HR and 90 RBI season easily out of the 20th round or later. I'd say that's not a bad deal if you miss out on the elite 3B and need somebody that won't kill you in any categories...

Am I crazy? :-?
