2009 Stats Average by Position

Postby kev921 » Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:24 pm

I've searched without luck of finding anything published, but would anyone have seen 2009 (or several years composite) average statistics by position?

Last year, I believe i found them from Yahoo. These numbers are great to compare projected 2010 numbers versus last years averages.

Thanks

I guess the question is if you want the average by position for everyone or only for the ones that are fantasy relevant?
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.

My bad, I'm only concerned with the fantasy relevent. I'm looking for numbers to compare at each postion to differentiate how much better (or worse) a player is over the positions average. Perhaps the top 8 for each position (top 25 for OF position for example).

Does anyone else build their fantasy player rankings this way?

That's pretty common. It's the basis of drafting by positional scarcity.

If you go here ESPN will give you last year's stats by position and you can copy as many of them as you like and then paste them into Excel to figure out the positional average.

I only did it for 1B, 2B, SS, and 3B, and focused my attention on "runs created" (as a stat that I find to be indicative of overall fantasy value), but you might be interested in this motion chart I created. It shows how production at these four positions compares to each other, annually, from 2003 to 2009.

I think it is one of the coolest things ever. I do not know if it will change anything that I do, but it is still cool. Nice work.

Matt Buser has done an annual column on this called "Splitsville" on Yahoo. Haven't seen it yet for this year.
"I don't want to play golf. When I hit a ball, I want someone else to chase it."
