I for one am excited about this deal and the fact Dave Duncan will have a chance to get Hill's career back on track. Rich Hill 2007 :-L . Article about the signing over at fangraphs. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index. ... to-yankees

Duncan has had a lasting effect on one pitcher as far as I can tell, Chris Carpenter. The rest of his 'Dave Duncan fixed X' type of players have all reverted back to the same state the following year. I wouldn't put too much stock in him fixing anyone. He is a good pitching coach but having a defense minded manager in a pitchers park is why I would look at Cardinal pitchers, not really because of Duncan.

Very true, but I also believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) but I believe one of the things Duncan gets credit for is getting his pitchers to pound the strike zone. I am legitimately interested in Hill for the reason's you mentioned as well as the Duncan experience.

LaRussa (whispering): "Hey Rich, I've got some brewski's in my trunk then we can go for a drive. If you get caught make sure you ask the cops if they know who you are."
Hill: Wtf?
Duncan: HEY GET THIS BUM OUTTA HERE! Oh, hi Tony.

Old news :-D

Hill doesn't really fit the Duncan mold, too many walks and not enough ground balls. But, this is a no risk deal for the Cards so they might as well see what he can do.

I will be rooting for him.

He grew up not far from here and he is a great kid.

I still think they bring in someone else but right now it looks like a battle between Jaime Garcia, Rich Hill and maybe Blake Hawksworth. They also have Mitch Boggs. Hawksworth seems better suited for the bullpen but he pitched well in AAA as a starter.
