Chipper's Unknown Replacement Can Hit

Keep an eye on Brooks Conrad, who plays 3B for the Braves when Chipper is out (like right now). The guy can hit- two pinch hit Grand Slams already this year, and he hit the go ahead two-run jack in the ninth last night. He's thirty years old, so he's not a young gun, but he is quietly providing a good deal of offense for the Braves this year. I believe he will be the Braves starting 3B next year, after Chipper's retirement.

He has the power...no doubt. The problem with him is the average considering he has a career BA in the minors of .261

Good point. That is definitely something to consider. But I'm definitely going to keep an eye on him as a sleeper CI for next year.

I guess I can file the above comment under the "shows what I know" column. :-?

I don't think so.. per Rotoworld

Chipper Jones (knee) is out of Saturday's lineup.
He's sitting due to soreness in his right knee, not his surgically-repaired left knee. Chipper will test the knee out before the game before it's determined when he might be able to return. The Braves will start Martin Prado at third Saturday, with Eric Hinske taking Prado's spot in left field. Freddie Freeman has moved up to the third spot in the order.

Also Conrad is a horrendous defender, no way the Braves play him everyday at any position. Secondly, Chipper is signed through 2012 (with an option for 2013), so unless another major injury occurs he'll be back to collect 15 mil. Prado is the backup 3B anyway, if the Braves need to start someone longterm at the position it will be him and they'll call-up or trade for some random LF.

Wax, you're new here so maybe you get a pass, but you need to read these posts carefully before you respond. Go back and read my original post above again, and see if you can figure out why your response didn't fit.

Ok, tru.. I understand, didn't notice the date. I just assumed the active threads near the top of the forum are current. But this begs the question: why comment on this old thread in the first place? Just brings it up to the top for sometime, taking the spot of a more relevant topic.

Because sometimes I (and other posters around here) find it interesting to go back and look at what we were saying about a player in the past, and then see how that compares to current reality. Not only does it sometimes generate interesting conversations, but it can also serve as a helpful "reality check" for the present.
