True, not everyone joins to be cool. As I have said multiple times, there are valid uses for Facebook.

However, it is obvious that tablesetter isn't one of those people. Otherwise, why "LOL" at someone who doesn't have something they don't want or need? Doesn't make any sense at all. So it is obvious that tablesetter is one of the sheep that wants to be "cool" and needs others to join so he will feel validated and "cool" because he has a Facebook account.

C'mon Mad, get with it. Nobody logs into Facebook on their computers anymore. They browse it on their Blackberries, Droids, and iPhones. There's an app for that.

In a somewhat related thought, I'm still waiting for the Cafe to come up with something that makes it less cumbersome when browsing from my phone.

Meh, stereotyping one direction is no more right than the other. Artful Dodger did a well enough job of outlining the usefulness and 'need' for Facebook. The bottom line here is that Facebook was the 'hip' 'new' thing to be on... six years ago. Now my father, age 60 has one, and my girlfriend's mother, and my uncles who are in their 60s. It's such a social phenomenon that it spawned a Best Picture nominee at the Oscars. It's a incredibly useful way to keep track of old and/or relocated friends. My 10 year high school reunion is being organized via Facebook. As I pointed out earlier, if you don't have an account in the United States, you're in the minority. Of course there's people who have an account just because they know it's popular, but the usefulness and practical application of the network cannot be understated. It's tremendous. We 'need' it in the same way we 'need' the Cafe. In reality, not at all, but it's hard for some of us to picture ourselves not using it.
