4/7 Venting, Cheering, Huff's Ding Dongs, and Adam Dunn

Postby wrveres » Thu Apr 07, 2011 5:42 am

let's give this a try.

here's the basic rules as i see them.

1. Please talk!! .. Talk about Huffs Ding dongs, or lack there of, or whatever else .. just cheer, vent, breathe, something.
2. The post must include a poll. No one said it had to be a good poll.
3. The first moderator that posts in this thread, should lock yesterdays thread. its like a request. thanks.
4. ??? ???
6. Profit.

Someone had a request for a Mike Minor update, So here you go.
Mike Minor allowed five earned runs, seven hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings in a loss against the Milwaukee Brewers. Minor is likely to make just this one start, as the team doesn't need a fifth starter again until April 16, when SP Jair Jurrjens (oblique) is expected back
Mets Fail!
The New York Mets aren't receiving financial help from insurance on SP Johan Santana's (shoulder) $22.5 million salary because the team chose to self-insure his deal to save money on insurance premiums, ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin reports. In essence, the Mets chose to create a rainy-day fund available so that the organization would not be crippled financially by the loss of a key player due to injury.
Is there anybody better in the game than Dave Duncan? Anybody?
Kyle McClellan used all four of his pitches effectively during his first start of the year, according to MLB.com's Matthew Leach. He induced strikeouts with his changeup, curveball, slider and fastball. "That's one thing that he's got," said C Gerald Laird. "I think every one of his pitches can be a strikeout pitch. You just go different ways. If you start out soft, he can get guys out late with his fastball. If you start guys off hard, he can get guys out late with his breaking stuff and his changeup."
Smoking!
Carlos Quentin had four hits, including a home run and two doubles, to help his team to an extra-innings win over the Kansas City Royals. Quentin drove in three runs in the game and is hitting .500 to start the year.
Smoking something.
Adam Dunn is already lobbying to play Thursday, April 7, after undergoing an appendectomy Tuesday, April 5, according to the Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales. "That's one thing I definitely don't want to do — miss Opening Day at home," said Dunn, who had a laparoscopic procedure about three hours after the Sox's loss Tuesday night. "I'm going home and planning on playing (Thursday), and go from there."
From my Bench
Alex Avila was a triple shy of the cycle Wednesday, against the Baltimore Orioles, finishing with a career-best five RBIs. Avila also came up with his first stolen base of the season
From My Twitter
John Axford: And how about this for another poll! Does Miller Park need to play everyones intro songs louder? It's too quiet I think!

Excuses :-°

1. Carlos Gonzalez is AWAY (from Coors) "today", so he shouldn't be a .350 ISO monster.
2. Does anyone have the cojones to start Jon Niese (LHP) @ PHI? I'm guessing no. ;-7
3. Le Sexy SP sleeper Esmil Rogers has PIT, keep an eye on the result.

Every morning I get to work about a half hour before the students, sit down with my coffee, open this thread, and things suddenly start looking up.

Crazy prediction that I want to see come to fruition for no reason other than that I want to seem smarter than I really am:

Fausto's ERA is higher tomorrow than it is today.

Don't have the sac to trot Liriano out @NYY, but this would be an instance where I don't mind sitting a real solid start, after how he pitched last week.

I don't have a single one of these SPs - in my lineup or on my bench - in either of my leagues.

Up until the point that the kids show up, I think it is. Don't quote me on that.
