Best staff distribution

Postby DEF » Mon Mar 29, 2004 3:10 am

Trying to decide how best to distribute my pitching spots between starters, closers and set-up guys. Head-to-head league has 2 SP, 2 RP, 4 P and six bench spots with daily transactions (so you can rotate starters in as they pitch) with W, CG, S, Hlds, K, ERA and WHIP as pitching categories (no innings limit). After my draft, my staff stands as:

SP - Mussina
SP - Santana
RP - Dotel
RP - F. Codero
P - Nathan
P - R. Soriano
P - Fran. Rodriguez
P - Riske
Bench - W. Miller (SP)
Bench - Webb (SP)
Bench - Morris (SP)
Bench - Contreras (SP)
Bench - Myers (SP)
(my final bench spot is for a hitter - M. Bradley)

It's a solid staff, but there are some good pitchers left on the waiver wire (at least for now, I doubt the closers will last long). Graves, Chacon, Kolb and Herges are out there as closers; Lidge, Bradford and Quantrill for set-up; and Affeldt, Hampton and J. Williams as starters. Would you drop any of my guys for any of those?

Am I carrying too many starters with seven? Should I drop Myers for another reliever? If I did, it would probably be for Graves or Chacon because I could use them in my SP spot when I don't have two starters pitching, or for Lidge. Holds are worth just as much as saves in this league, so is an elite holder like Lidge better than a fourth closer like Riske? I love the Ks and ratios from K-Rod and Soriano, but neither had many holds last year so I'm thinking I may need Lidge to compete in that category. Would I be better off dropping Myers for a closer eligible at SP (Chacon or Graves?) and then dropping Riske for Lidge? Or should I just stand pat? Thanks.

"Yeah, Dave's a killer."

"Dave's a mess."
