Concerning John Smoltz

Postby Absolutely Adequate » Fri Apr 09, 2004 10:36 pm

He has already given up more home runs this year then he gave up all of last year. If he is nursing an injury, does anyone think that maybe Cruz has a shot to close out some games? Does anyone think it's possible that his elbow isn't up to par?

He just hasn't looked like Smoltz this year.

He has started slowly before. I think he will be fine as long as the elbow holds.

im not concerned at all... im mad though cause i needed that save and that ER wont help at all... but this wont be a trend... he needs time to shake off all the rust.... hes gonna save at least 40 (if he doesnt get injured) so stay cool...

I think he's trying to work himself out of the closing job and into the starting rotation. :-b But seriously, I think he'll be fine. He just needs to settle down and get those outs.

I wouldn't be concerned.
I'd try and get Smoltz on my roster now when his value is low because there's a possibility that he might start this year.

Yeah no reason to be concerned... Except for the fact that he's given up runs and been hit very hard in all 3 of his appearances this season. Other than that no reason to be concerned, it's real normal for closers to start the season that way :-t

Remember Smoltz just came back from TJ surgery, pitched a total of I believe 4 innings in ST, so he is rusty.

He still has everything he had last year in terms of velocity.

Smoltz has started slow before, and he bounced back, and there is no reason to doubt that he will do it again.

You're still posting about Smoltz and his mysterious TJ surgery that he recovered from in the off-season? HE DIDN'T COME OFF OF TJ SURGERY!! He wouldn't be back until 2005 at the earliest if he had it in the off-season. He had it a while ago, but has had 2 great seasons since then.
