What is wrong with Smoltz?

He's killing me! 1 save, but an ERA around 10 is killing me! He has yet to go an outing without giving up a run.

I wouldn't worry about him yet. I think he pissed off his owners last year after giving up 8 ER and no outs or something like that early in the year.

He settled down and was lights out until he got hurt. I'd expect the same turnaround shortly.

Although as an avid Brave hater, I kind of hope he tanks it. :-)

He'll most likely come around soon...just having a tough start week. Keep the faith!

Nothin' wrong with Smoltzie, per say.

Don't forget some important factors, A) He's just coming off TJ surgery, B) He still has his velocity, C) He is rusty having not pitched more than 4 innings in ST, D) As for right now, his pitching patterns are VERY predictable, he isn't using his breaking pitches enough, rather relying basically solely on his fastball.

Either way, just remember a couple years ago he got off to a similar start and was virtually unhittable for the rest of the season.

He's not coming off of TJ surgery, that was a while ago. He's had 2 awesome seasons since then. I doubt that has anything to do with it. But as an owner of his, I'm getting worried. He's looked terrible. Hopefully he's just rusty and will be back to his old self soon enough.

What has he pitched, 3 innings? This is a completely a meaningless sample size to make any sort of judgement. In case you haven't noticed, all RPs go through streaks where they will have a really high ERA over a set of three or four appearences.

Remember 2 years ago? He got the crap kicked out of him in April, (including an outing where he gave up like 8 runs in an inning), and went on to have a fantastic year as a closer.

Well, he did have elbow surgery in the off season, so I would assume that his comfort level is not 100%.
