The power of SPEED

Probably the most underated stat in major league baseball, spped in the top of the line-up is so important. Speed makes a single and a double as good as a homerun and a double. If the guy in the top of the line up can get from first to home from a double then you will get far. That is if the guy has good on base percentage.

How does this calculate to Fantasy baseball? Well if you obtain a few speedster that are on top of a good Major Legue team then you are most likely to win in both stolen bases and runs. That is already half of offensive stats in Yahoo normal settings.

The power of speed is so important yet it is not used to much. people tend to waist their lower draft pick obtaining probable power guy when they could steal some speedster who could make them produce alot of runs and stolen bases.

There has been a lot written about this topic around the cafe since Ive been here.
While steals are still underappreciated in many fantasy circles, a lot of people around here have caught on.
Interestingly enough, you could still get good steals fairly inexpensively in the drafts this yr - making an early jump for Pierre highly questionable. Guys like Pods, Crawford, Sanchez, and a bunch of others could have been drafted in the 15th rd or later in many drafts. Basically what that means is that this yr it was still wise to not put a huge emphasis on speed in the early rds.

How bout Roberts 4 swipes yesterday? Not too shabby for a late rd selection in my NL only league.

the problem with some base stealers(cough dave roberts) is that their stats in other catagories are so bad that the stolen bases they give you hurt you in other departments. Lets face it, Roberts isnt going to touch home plate a lot, mainly because LA cant hit. Thats why im a little hesitant on base stealers.
