Payton or Phillips

Postby nhgent » Tue Mar 18, 2003 1:23 pm

I have an extra spot on my roster and wondering which one of these guys I should pick up:

Jay Payton or Brandon Phillips.

Payton is a bit more proven, but Phillips might be ready to break out. Anyone??

Phillips

From what I've heard, take Phillips. Payton is on the downswing anyway, and Phillips is a rookie who has nowhere to go but up.

If you're happy with your backups in the outfield, I would take a chance on Phillips. He's had a good spring and will start in Cleveland. He definitely has the talent to be one of the top middle infielders in baseball!

If you're not happy with your backup outfielders, I would definitely take Payton. Although he is a huge injury risk, he's been putting up huge numbers playing in Colorado.

if this is a keeper league and you're satisfied w/ your outfield, take phillips......
but if you're looking for some offense off the bench and maybe starting, go w/ payton, he could put up .300-20-75 easily if he gets 500 abs.

but if you're just filling your roster, go w/ phillips, he'll be a huge commodity in keeper leagues, though i don't think he'll be an impact player this year. best case scenario, he puts up just under what soriano did his first year... like .260 maybe 12 homers 50 rbi, and like 20 steals. but hey, that's pretty good at MI

Keeper Phillips, non Payton. Phillips is only 21, i see him struggling this year. Look at Burroughs, Blalock, Johnson.
