Sleepers in the steals category

Postby reenum » Sun Apr 25, 2004 11:08 pm

Alright guys. I think I drafted a fairly good team, but I am sorely lacking in the steals department.

All the obvious steals guys like Crawford, Roberts, and Sanchez have already been picked up.

Are there any hidden gems any of you could suggest who might be good to pick up? I'm talking in general terms, so I'm not concerned with whether they're still available in my league or not. I just need to know who they are.

Thanks a lot, everyone.

Hard to tell without more details, but I'lll take a guess

Luis Matos - he might heat up and has a outside shot at 15 homers and 25 steals

I would have said Matos also, but he is not doing so well in the beginning here. I would look at Chone Figgins. He swiped 2 today bringng his total up to 6 in about 20 AB. The angels don't quite have a place for him (natural 2B/SS) so they are trying him in center field. Can't say that he'll play everyday, but he could see action like Dave Roberts does for the dodgers (400-500 AB). And I would guess that means 30+ steals for him.

Chone is just filling in for Garrett Anderson for the next week or so. Don't expect many ABs.

Try to make a trade for a slumping basestealer...

Rollins, Furcal, Castillo, Byrd, Winn... someone like them, maybe?

Good point...I would trade for either Rollins or maybe Winn if you're brave. I would avoid Furcal unless you can get him dirt cheap, my opinion is that he is overrated.

If it's head-to-head, don't worry about steals (unless it's head to head roto?). Your first priority should be getting a better 3rd baseman -- Ensberg's nowhere near the top 10 now that he's platooning.

Ensberg had a slow start last season, then he knocked the cover off the ball in May. You might want to look at Tike Redman. I don't think he's stolen many, or any bases, but he did in triple A

Tike hasn't been running so far this season for some reason. He had a minor hamstring problem during spring training, but there hasn't been any mention of that since. If he starts running, he'll likely rack up a good amount of bases.
