As the commish..What should I do??

Postby SHOCKandAWE » Tue Apr 27, 2004 4:57 pm

I am in a very big oney league and as the commish I need to send lopsided trades the executive committee which is 5 owners excluding the commish. Do you guys think this is a bad transaction?

TEAM A GETS:
avg hr rbi r sb
3B Shea Hillenbrand .188 3 8 6 0 platoon
OF Rocco Baldelli .258 1 3 10 2 starter
SS Alex Rodriguez .257 3 5 7 2 starter
RP Scott Williamson 8.2inn 1sv 0.00era .880whip 7k's setup
SP Joel Pinerio 22.3inn 19k's 1w 2L 8.46era 2.060

TEAM B GETS:
avg hr rbi r sb
3B Sean Burroughs .325 0 10 12 3 starter
SS Kalile Green .288 0 7 9 0 starter
OF Lance Berkman .267 4 16 12 0 starter
SP Mark Mulder 27inn 19k's 2W 1L 2.33era 1.074whip
RP Joe Nathan 9.0inn 6sv 3.00era 1.88whip 11k's closer

I need to mention that it is a standard 5x5 league

I certainly like what Team B is getting better but he is sending A-Rod the other way. I don't think that it's vetoable.

I think TEAM B is getting a much better deal. My question is there really a need to have ALL these layers involved?? It is costing each owner $10 in the pot for ths trade

Hillenbrand is a little worse than Burroughs
A-rod is WAY better than Greene
Baldelli is worse than Berkman
Williamson won't put up as good of stats as Nathan
Piniero is worse than Mulder

So, that is 4 to 1, but the one is a pretty significant one, so I'll make it a score of 4 to 3. Not vetoable, but B is getting the better end of the deal.

that isn't for you to determine. fair trade. questioning the "needless complexity" of it isn't fair.

That was a little question before Hillenbrand got his demotion. At best, he is a platoon player right now.

my question

http://fantasybaseballcafe.com/forums/v ... hp?t=54621

When breaking down deals I always look at the top tier players involved...

Team A is getting the consensus #1 player who although slumping is on the best offense and qualifies at both SS and 3B

Team B is getting Berkman who at OF is not nearlyas valuable as an Infielder with his tools and to be honest isnt much more valuable than baldelli in a roto league IMO and Mulder who is a bonafide Ace. Looking at it like that I think team B gets a lot but not too much for giving up Arod.

Too me the next most valuable players in the deal are Rocco... potentially a great roto player who hits for avg, some power and SBs... Pinero who although a terrible start has great upside.

Then I look at Joe Nathan and Williamson who to be honest eventhough Nathan helps in saves he hurts in whip where Williamson doesnt hurt you and can get a cheap save or two...

Burroughs and Hillenbrand are a wash and Kalile Green replacing Arod is as big of a drop off as there is in the deal.

Arod - Kahlil 5 stars to A
Hillenbrand - Arod wash
Rocco - Berkman 2 Stars to B
Pinero - Mulder 3 starts to B
Williamson - Nathan Wash again

Looking at it like that seems to be a pretty even trade... As a commish in a very large league that we have been running for awhile I would not think that trade should be vetoed... no collusion involved and seems to be a good deal... Its not easy to get the best Player in baseball you have to give up a lot and they did...

Looks fine to me ;-D . I do not see a reason to veto it.

looks kind of fair. OF corse this raises the whole, power of commish debate agian.

I hate these huge trades, if you are going to trade this many guys so early in the season, why didn't you draft your team differently.
