All right guys, quick question here...reigning AL player of the week is Jake Westbrook. Have you ever heard of him? What can one expect out of him? Is he worth picking up in a deep AL only league? He's supposed to start this Sunday, so I'm just wondering...thanks!

a guy who can effectively change speeds and hence gets the hitters off balance. His ground ball out to fly ball out ratio last game was 18-6... May be a sleeper.

Watching him pitch against the tigers was very nice. Westbrook isn't a flamethrower, but he has been throwing his sinkerball very well. Combine that with a plus change and curve and he reminds me of derek lowe (not sure if Lowe throws a curve though). He'll never get many strikeouts, but he does have big potential if he keeps throwing like his last two appearances. If westbrook can keep the ball down in the strikezone he could have a year like lowe did in 2002. Of course he does pitch for the tribe and not the red sox, so I don't see him getting 21 wins.

Supposebly his start was supposed to just be a spot start while CC and Jason Stanford (The Indians 5th starter) were hurt. CC is supposed to start on the 1st, but Stanford is on the DL.

Pitching the way he has, I don't see how Wedge can keep Westbrook out of the rotation . I haven't heard it officially, but I think westbrook is a lock for Stanford's old 5th starting spot.

I remotely remember him as a Yankee - he wasn't all that impressive in his tenure in the Bronx.

He had 5.1 innings of relief work with a 3.38 era before his long relief work and cg against the tigers. That 1 k and 4 walks prior to his last two outings may not have been very shiny, but I still think it is far from putrid.

Apology accepted. And I can concurr on the career ERA of 4.95 and whip of 1.49 being pretty bad. He's only 26 though, so that isn't a very long career. I think if he was a power pitcher people would be raving about him like Oliver Perez or Riley. Ground ball pitchers without 8+ k/9 get no love.

I know this is an old thread, but it is the most relevant for my post, and has some decent info.

Westbrook just got taken out after 6 solid innings. His last 3 outings he's gone 22 IP with 2ER. Can somebody besides me show some love for the guy?

I think my comparisons to Lowe's breakout big year are starting to look better and better :-D .

Riske has just joined the fray so Jake's WIN is looking dodgy now.
