Jody Gerut: 30/30?

Postby Ry-Guy » Mon May 10, 2004 11:37 am

Is Jody Gerut capable of a 30/30 season? Maybe not this year but he is definitely someone to keep an eye on. The Indians have a lot of exciting young players and could really start making waves in the coming seasons.

He's supposed to be one of the top prospects almost getting ready to break out. I have my eyes on him because he's been doing real well lately.

He never hit with this kind of power in the minors, so I don't know that 30/30 is a realistic goal for Gerut. Maybe 20/30? That ain't not bad.

that is less then 1 more month of playing time. his numbers haven't been that great in the minors and to me pitchers will adjust to him. i'd bet on 20-25 hr's, but i stand by saying i don't think he has the power to hit 30. i could be wrong but that's my opinion, if he ever does hit 30 it will be his career year and i doubt he will match it again.

30/30 Threats

Postby Ry-Guy » Mon May 10, 2004 4:00 pm

So is it safe to say Carlos Beltran and Alfonso Soriano are the only locks for 30/30 this season?

Reggie Sanders, Mike Cameron, and Jacque Jones appear to be on pace.

Hopefully Bobby Abreu can get back on track.

I see Abreu hitting 30HR, but I don't see him getting 30SB. Philly has been running much more lately (past 2-3 games), but Abreu seems to have lost a step. I can't prove it, but it just seems that way.

If I had to guess, I'd say only around 15-18SB for Abreu this season with about 8 of them coming against Piazza.

I'm a Tribe fan, and Gerut doesn't have the speed for it. I think there's a chance for 30 homers--though I can't see him ever getting more than 25 consistently--but he'll be very hard-pressed to hit 20 steals, much less 30.

I agree, I'm thinking more in the 15 SB range...which still isn't bad if he can put up 25 HRs.
