Damasco Marte: Plucking daisies

Postby ike301 » Mon May 10, 2004 2:36 pm

He loves me. He loves me not. He loves me. He loves me not.

This is the life of closer/set-up/utility Damasco Marte.

It seems when he only gets called when finds favor of the pitching gods especially when the moon and stars are aligned.

Anyone know the exact formula for getting save opps?

Geez, if i thought he would of been a set-up man, i wouldn't have grabbed him....

Rule 10.20 credits a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:

(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and

(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and

(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:

(a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or

(b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces); or

(c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings.

No more than one save may be credited in each game

ouch. ek711, thanks for that. actually, that was a sarcastic statement that came out wrong in writing. i wanted to know when do they played marte and when do they play koch. sometimes they bring in marte to save, most of the time they bring in koch.

bottom line, should i keep marte in my roster?

Ozzie Gullen has said from day 1 Koch is the closer, Marte is too valuable to the sox as their only left handed arm out of the pen. He will get some save opputunties from time to time this year & might even end up closing, but Koch is going to have to implode first.

at first he was using Marte to close out games if a lefty was up & he still might do that from time to time, but for now it looks like Koch will get the majority of the save opps.

however marte is one of the best setup men in the league, but if you league doesent count holds i guess it would be wise to cut him

yeah, we're in a H2H yahoo league, holds dont count.

though we do count Ks, WHIP and ERA, perhaps i can find solace in other pitchers that will get more innings.

so dump marte, youre saying?

depends on who you would dump him for. he usually puts up decent numbers so he doesnt hurt you. but if there is someone who could potentially get more saves or be a an effective starting pitcher then it might be wise to pick up that person.

if theres someone worthwile to pick up, i would. He might end up closing at some point this year & will get a few oppurtunites from time to time. So i wouldnt dump him 4 nothing, he can help era & whip, but if theres something u like out there i guess i would go get it

Haha :-b . I caught the sarcasm but thought you still wanted it :*) . If you had a better option than marte I'd drop him in a second. The big concern with Koch was always his velocity, which is back.

I like jbones's comment best. I'd get somebody else ;-D

None of those hitters look like better options than what you already have on your roster, except for old man finley.

I'd rather gamble on a starter that could take off this year in a H2H league. More wins and k's is better to have than another guy riding the pine in you lineup. Assuming you aren't in a league where you set your lineup every week, I'd go with a SP.

And for some strange reason I'm still fascinated with RA Dickey and his ligamentless "Thing". I'd pick up Dickey.
