Well, he K'd two and let up two singles...

I'd love to know what people think of him. I have this feeling he can keep the job, with Macdougal still missing the plate in AAA and has had elbow trouble.
I'm back. Sorta.

From Rotoworld:

Jeremy Affeldt pitched a scoreless ninth against the Tigers tonight to earn the save.
Affeldt did make things interesting by allowing the winning run to come to the plate, but he still managed to get the job done. He's now earned four saves and a win with only one blown save since becoming Kansas City's closer. His job security is increasing each day.

I am not too worried that he allowed the winning run to come to the plate. I mean, it seems closers like Mariano Rivera always do that and I don't think his job is in any jepardy. He just needs to make it interesting for him to get fully focused probably.

its still early but i think he'll keep his job for at least the rest of this season. he wasn't putting up the #'s they were hoping for as a starter and is doing fine right now. i'm sure glad i picked him up, free closers are always nice.

Affeldt Strikes Again... Will he keep it up?

Postby Warpigs » Wed Jun 02, 2004 3:24 am

Looked good tonight for the Royals with two Ks in one inning pitched for the save. He's been really effective in the role so far, and you have to wonder if he'll keep the spot even when MacDougal returns. What do you all think?

All logic says they should not leave him there for his future career development unless they want to sign him to a long contract and bank on him as the closer of the futureIMHO. The Royals arent exactly dominate with their SP, and I dont think they plan on him as the closer of the future. I dont think it will happen this year, I'd be really surprised if he isnt in the starting rotation next year, but if McDougal looks strong and another SP goes down they might move him rather quickly or have him pitch long relief to help his stamina develop.

If you have him I would ride it out and hope for the best. If someone wants to trade for him, dont let him go for less than 2nd tier Closer value, as you round out your team.
