Jeremy Affeldt - R - KC Buy Royals Tickets

Jeremy Affeldt is definitely DL bound with a strained rib-cage muscle. The Royals fear he might have a tear.
Affeldt will likely miss 2-3 weeks with a strain, six with a tear. Nate Field becomes the favorite for saves in Kansas City.

Is Field going to be a good option for some cheap Saves over the next few weeks?

His numbers don't look too bad:

28.2 IP, 2W- 1L , 2 SV, 23 K's, 3.14 ERA and 1.12 Whip

Is there any reason to hold on to Affeldt or should he be cut?

I picked him up just now in my 16-team (just to piss off the owners desperately needing any saves).

I really wouldn't want to own many Royals right now. I don't even think they made out well in the Beltran deal. Got 3 B/C level prospects. They should of taken the BEST PLAYERS they could of gotten vs. insisting on a catcher and 3B.

If the ribcage isn't torn hang on to him. It'll only be 2-3 weeks. If it is, then it depends on what league you are in. A torn ribcage means 6-8 weeks.

Forget the man crush. I drop what I'm doing to watch Zack Greinke pitch.

I thought it was always part of the plan that Affey would start again this year. If Field goes OK my guess is they keep him and throw Affey back into the rotation.

I'll wait a couple of days but I'll have to free up a DL spot for Hudson - currently occupied by Wickman, who maybe I'll cut cos I've got Riske, or maybe I'll cut Riske... or maybe I'll go through so many options my head will explode.

Royals brought up Huisman, any word on if he's going to close?

Rotoworld:

An MRI revealed that Jeremy Affeldt has partially torn muscles in his rib cage. He's expected to miss at least six weeks.
It's possible that Affeldt won't be back until rosters expand on Sept. 1. Maybe Mike MacDougal will return to compete for closidng duties next month, but Nate Field has plenty of value now.
I'm back. Sorta.

Do not boo Johnny.
