Miguel Batista is officially being moved to the bullpen to the closer's role for the rest of the season.
Cheap saves alert. "We know what he can do as starter," interim manager John Gibbons said. "It's a little experiment. We'll see what happens." Sep. 18 - 12:40 am et

Definitely, Speier was a borderline closer for you to have before, but now with him losing his closer role, you should let him go. ;-D

Thanks for the report. I had him on my roster on a couple of teams and rosters were due tomorrow for the week.

Yeah I was gonna mention this - they're giving the job to Batista in preparation for 2005. Sure, he's been horrible lately, but other than Halladay and Lilly, who do we have? Maybe he'll be a bad closer like Escobar was and then we'll end up with a good reformed starter for half a season before losing him to free agency.

yeah, i heard this last night before going to bed. drop speier, no more save opps for him. it's gonna be tough to pick up batista cuz he might be already gone in most leagues. we just hope that "el artista" can be a successful closer for next year... ;-D

i dunno, i was hoping that frasor would be closing next year. yeah, he's been bad lately, but still i thought he would close next year. oh well. the problem with batista is that he gives up a lot of fly balls and that in the skydome sometimes means HRs. :-o

what the?! I also dropped Speier after hearing he had lost the closer role, but someone in my league beat me to the punch and picked up Batista. Fortunately the move isn't effective until tomorrow, as I just saw the Speier got the save today. What's going on? Batista just not quite ready to work back to back days?

Not sure where your looking, but I'm pretty sure it's incorrect and they just haven't updated it. Lilly is schedule to start on Wednesday, not Batista (go to MLB.com).

As for Batista not closing, he did start a game on the 16th and then close on the 18th. My guess is that didn't want him pitching again so soon. Jays site has an article on Batista being the new closer so nothing has changed as far as what his role is.
