Lineup cards before gametime?

Postby Hudson72 » Thu Sep 30, 2004 8:08 pm

Hey guys,

Does anyone know where to find tenative lineups before game time? I can click on a game about a half-hour/hour before a game starts and check the lineup card but that doesn't help me when my league roster locks at noon!! Does anyone have a source that tells who is playing and who is not? I'm down to the wire in the playoffs of my 3 fantasy leagues, and need all the help I can get. Thanks.

I don't think such a resource exists for anything besides SPs. Best case seems to be 90-45 mins B4 gametime, but even those can change when official lineups are handed to the ump. :-o As the season winds down it's really difficult to guess who may or may not play. Teams in tight playoff races and players chasing records/milestones might make the safest guesses :*) On the bright side, your opposition is similarly handicapped ;-D

I'm pretty certain the best you're going to do is Yahoo and/or mlb.com between 30 minutes and 90 minutes prior to scheduled game time.
MLB rules don't require managers to submit legal lineups to the ump until about an hour prior to game time:
Official Rules: 4.00 Starting and Ending a Game
4.01
Unless the home club shall have given previous notice that the game has been postponed or will be delayed in starting, the umpire, or umpires, shall enter the playing field five minutes before the hour set for the game to begin and proceed directly to home base where they shall be met by the managers of the opposing teams. In sequence_ (a) First, the home manager shall give his batting order to the umpire in chief, in duplicate. (b) Next, the visiting manager shall give his batting order to the umpire in chief, in duplicate. (c) The umpire in chief shall make certain that the original and copies of the respective batting orders are identical, and then tender a copy of each batting order to the opposing manager. The copy retained by the umpire shall be the official batting order. The tender of the batting order by the umpire shall establish the batting orders. Thereafter, no substitutions shall be made by either manager, except as provided in the rules. ....

Beyond that, the best you can do is search the usual resources for notes about each of your players to try to get a sense of what the managers' intentions are. I've never come across a site that tried to project entire lineups. If my SS gets beaned in the head tonight, maybe he'll sit tomorrow, but ....as soon as I bench him, he'll play and go 3 for 4 with 2 SB's.
Blessed are the cheesemakers.

Ouch. Rough rules, but at least everyone is in the same boat. Tough to get lineups that early and basically impossible. Just pay attention to the games the night before and make your best guess.
