Where would you take Smoltz

Where should Smoltz go in a 12 team 5x5 league? Is 6 rd too early for him?

I think the 6th round is definitely too early for him. I'd wait until the 9th or 10th, and if someone else snatches him up before than, they can have him. There are too many safer/better pitchers available in the 6th to grab him there.

Sixth is a little early for me. I was thinking along the lines of Dans myself. If he's there in the 10th round or so I may take a chance on him, but I just don't think he will be as dominant as he once was in the rotation and no where near his fantasy value of the last few years. That being said someone will probably take him in the 5-6 range just on name recognition and/or they have no clue he's going back to the starting rotation.

I agree. There is too many risky variables invloved to think about taking Smoltz before the middle rounds.

agreed ;-D

Let someone else take the gamble on the big name. It may pay off but may also burn them pretty bad. A nice end of rotation guy I am thinking.

I took Santana in the 8th last year, and (if you can forget about Santana's awesome 2004) I value smoltz a little less than than. I might grab him in the eigth depending on how the draft is shaking out. but ninth or tenth sounds better for me too.

Is there any evidence that starting will be harder on his arm than closing? I've looked for it, but haven't been really able to find anything.

Smoltz claims that it will be easier on his arm b/c he won't have to warm up as often.

Where should Smoltz go...

To the bullpen. Where could he go? To the DL and then to Dr. James Andrews, at any time. Pass. Until the end game, at any rate.

I think half the guys here are full of it, and will be chomping at the bit to get Smoltz if the guy is still on the board after round FOUR.

Really.

Don't kid a kidder on this one, and any talk to the contrary is just an attempt to push him down on everyone ELSE's draft card.
