Never said they do. My point is just because a guy is talented and Mazzone is coaching them, that doesn't automatically guarantee a successful season.

What everyone misses is that Smoltz is the biggest competitor in the game. He is a sick athlete....he can will himself to 15 wins easy. The guy is going to be a monster this year.

Well Ortiz had a couple successful seasons under Mazzone and Marquis continually butted heads with Mazzone - much like Odalis Perez.

Ortiz is a terrible pitcher. He is the product of pitching in great pitchers parks and good run support. The guy walks WAY too many guys to be successful. Mazzone didnt really do anything for Ortiz in my opinion. Signing him to the contract AZ did, may have been the worst signing this offseason.
