Who would YOU pick at 3B for this team?

Postby West Texas Wolf » Thu Feb 03, 2005 10:28 am

This is my team so far. Quality 3B positions were taken quickly so I chose to get other quality players that were available.

C Mike Lieberthal
1B Sean Casey
2B Marcus Giles
SS Nomar Garciaparra
3B ----
OF Lance Berkman
OF Manny Ramirez
OF Steve Finley
MI Brian Roberts
CI Shawn Green
U Larry Walker
U Trot Nixon

I have some ideas but wanted some input. These are my options -
Corey Koskie (TOR)
Joe Crede (CHW)
Vinny Castilla (WAS)
Ty Wigginton (PIT)
Morgan Ensberg (HOU)
Bill Mueller (BOS)
Edgardo Alfonzo (SF)
Garrett Atkins (COL)
Eric Hinske (TOR - quals at 3B but will play 1B)
Brandon Inge (DET)
Chris Truby (KC)

Who would YOU pick and why?

Wow I wouldn't want any of them 3rb is not that deep of a position and you waited to long.

If I had to say anyone - Inge for the possible potential to improve.

Good Luck with that though.

i don't really like any of them, but castillo had the best year last year. what you should do is pick up castillo and then try to trade for some speed. you have enough power, but people will trade speed for power if they can get it. castillo hit 40 homeruns last year, so he will have trade value.

Koskie. If he stays healthy he is by far the best IMO.

I'd take Crede over Koskie only because of Koskie's extensive injury history.

Not the greatest of choices. Id go with Castilla because of last year's awesome performance, and he will also be trying to win the hearts of thousands in the DC area, hopefully.

With 3b as deep as it is, how could it be that bad? You let 3b go until the 19th round or something picking up the likes of Trot Nixon instead?

Really it bears repeating because with guys like Chipper 3b elig, Glaus, Lowell and others it is hard to belive that the top 12-15 3b elig players all went so early as to warrant getting into this sort of a hole.

The 3b draft list:
1 Alex Rodriguez NYY 29.7 S 3B 0.293 108 38 110 24 5.017
2 Adrian Beltre SEA 26.0 S 3B 0.298 100 40 107 5 4.517
3 Scott Rolen STL 30.0 S 3B 0.303 111 32 117 3 4.457
4 Eric Chavez OAK 27.3 S 3B 0.280 95 33 94 5 3.923
5 Hank Blalock TEX 24.4 S 3B 0.280 104 34 111 1 4.110
6 Aramis Ramirez CHC 26.8 S 3B 0.289 96 33 99 0 3.940
7 Aubrey Huff TB 28.3 S 3B 1B 0.299 89 28 100 4 3.920
8 Melvin Mora BAL 33.2 S 3B 0.303 98 23 92 8 3.910
9 Chipper Jones ATL 33.0 S 3B OF 0.272 84 31 101 1 3.630
10 Mike Lowell FLA 31.1 S 3B 0.295 93 28 92 4 3.840
11 Troy Glaus ARZ 28.7 S 3B 0.268 90 34 98 5 3.827
12 Juan Uribe CHW 25.7 S 2B SS 3B 0.280 88 25 81 11 3.617
13 David Wright NYM 22.3 S 3B 0.284 80 26 78 8 3.500
14 Casey Blake CLE 31.6 S 3B OF 0.268 88 27 86 5 3.453

14 players deep and I am nowhere near the likes of the players on that given availability list with the possible exception of Koskie.

If I was in your position I would take Inge.
He's been handed the full-time 3b job, which will ensure ABs; his stats won't be that far off of anyone else on the list; and, if you can swing a trade to shore up 3b at some point in the season he'll give you a superb bench option with c, 3b and OF eligibility.
