You could end up with something like this...

SP Randy Johnson
SP Mark Prior
RP Gagne
SP Peavy
RP Lidge
SP Halladay
C J.Lopez
1st D.Lee
3rd C.Jones
OF Rowand
OF J.Bay
OF Finley
OF P.Wilson
2nd C.Utley
SS K.Geene
SP A.Eaton
U R.Hidalgo
OF D.Roberts..........

Not a bad team???????

i think you would be punting avg. but that is at a quick glance. I like pitching big time, though.

The problem is that you'd finish close to last in most offensive categories and pitching is less reliable so you are not guaranteed to win all the pitching categories. If anything, you could go all hitters and then all pitchers and be in better shape.

I don't know, pitching is so frustrating every year. Of the six pitchers you mentioned, three have missed significant time in the last 2 years, Halladay and Prior last year and RJ the year before. You can make the same argument if you take all offense early. Something like this:

Tejada
Ichiro
M. Cabrera
Chavez
Delgado
Zambrano
Beckett
Burnett
Benitez
Izzy
Bonderman

Building block to a very good team, good positional production from Tejada and Chavez, great power and avg. with steals from Ichiro. Take Figgins later for speed from 2B, and gamble on a young catcher like Closser or Buck. Pitching should still be very competitive but instead of spending early picks, get your staff in the middle rounds to reduce risk some.

It's much easier to manage your team when you balance it out. Spread the risk intead of betting on your starters coming through...

That outfield hurts. Other than that, not bad!

don't get me wrong, it would probably be the coolest thing to have a rotation like that, and then still have a lineup that can hit its way out of a wet paper bag... but, i don't think its possible. if you can do it, more power to you

I have to agree that there's no way you'd land all those guys, even if EVERYONE is aware of the 'don't take pitchers early' paradigm. You'd just start a pitching stampede earlier than it usually would start. Which might also be interesting and throw off a lot of people's research which, if you PLAN on doing, might allow you to 'outdraft' people in the first few rounds.
