I think Aaron Rowand is way overrated.

Yeah I think if you are automatically assuming that he will reproduce those numbers, it may be wishful thinking. To be fair though, the guy had a slow start and finish, but thats about it. Vernon Wells was brutal early, and then again in August.....and only walked 3 times in June. Still I hear nobody complaining about that. At least with Wells you sort of know what you are getting.....Rowand, you basically dont.

It isn't about the BB/K -- well, yes, it is, but in a different way. It's his minor league track record -- and it is a rather large one. Not only does he hack in the majors, but he did quite a lot of that in the minors. If he wasn't talented enough to overcome the plate discipline issues and post very good numbers in the minors, I have a very hard time seeing him do that in the majors. He's like Podsednik, only with a lot less speed.

He's not great, but he's still a good player. He was only bad, really, in 1 or 2 months last year. Lots of players have 1 or 2 bad months. And his worst month - September - he had 17 RBI. Not too bad. He didn't even take advantage of his home park which is one of the best in the majors for righties. I can see him with 25 HR's and 20 SB's next year. His BA will be good, around .300 probably, and he'll have maybe 100 R and 80 RBI. Not great, but he's Mike Cameron with a much better BA and 20 more R. I'd take that.

Vlad swings at everything, doesn't walk at all, and he bats .330... Its an ok indicator, but stuff like OBP and others are still much better. But I do think hes overrated, and not worth taking where he is going.

I think you need to see him play at least one or two more season before you can say he is over rated

being from chicago and watching a lot of the sox games, it's easy to see he is very overrated. He had 1 good month where he feasted on the royals and other cellar dweller pitchers. He can't hit breaking balls and won't have carlos lee and others to protect him.

Certainly, Rowand is never going to be a 100 walk guy. And he's not going to strike out 160 times like oh, say Corey Patterson. But his minor league numbers were not that bad (.280 with some power) You act like he was in the minors for 10 years. (Actually 4)
I guess as a White Sox fan I don't understand who is "over-rating" him. Last year was his first true chance to play every day.......If he hits .290 with 25 and 80 he's exceeding my expectations. Walk to strikeout ratio is more an indication of a type of hitter than a measure of talent. Fantasy wise, I suppose some people are over rating him if they expect .300 30 100 out of him.

Here's an outfielder with a 3/1 k/bb ratio who didn't make a splash until he was 27... He's a free swinger with a very small track record.

I'll draft Griffey before Rowand shows up on my roster. He's incredibly overrated and thank you for pointing it out.

At least Rowand is going to play most of the season :-b . Every year KGJ is a late round pick and they think they are getting a bargain, and every year he is a disappointment. He is never going to be that great player he was in Seattle anymore.
