Why do you have to hit .300/40/110/110 and steal 25 bases to be #1? Not to mention I doubt A-Rod will hit .300 or get 25 SB's.

we are talking 5x5 right? :-o

Why take ARod 1st when you can have Vlad with 10 less steals equal homeruns and a better avg? Or Beltran with equal avg and more steals? That would then allow you to grab the likes of ARam or Rolen latter to fill 3B slot, giving you ARod caliber numbers - the SB.

That's what I thought we were talking about. Are you talking about a league that counts swipes at a fielder's glove as a stat? Because A-Rod will win you that category by himself, which would make him understandable as the #1 pick. :-D

My league is counting those this year, along with embarrasing fielding errors, bad haircuts, and untucked jerseys.

Manny went first. :-]

What does this have to do with A-Rod being the #1 pick?

I really don't see how you think this highly of A-Rod... look at his home/road splits while with Texas to get a good idea of how good he ACTUALLY is. He's a .280 hitter. He's not a .300 hitter.

Beltran is also a .280 hitter. In fact last year, Beltran hit over .300 on the road while maintaining 45 HR power. And did you know that Houston and KC are 2 of the 4 worst HR parks for lefties? Houston is by far the worst in the majors for lefty HR's. That explains his bad home splits. Shea is a lot better for lefties than either MM Park or Kauffman. .290 with 40 HR's is entirely reachable, and even that would be a decline from last season's numbers (looking at his road splits). Here's a reasonable projection for each of them:

A-Rod: .285, 45 HR's, 120 R's, 115 RBI's, 20 SB's
Beltran: .285, 35 HR's, 125 R's, 120 RBI's, 45 SB's

I think that's more than fair for each of them (IMO I'm being generous to A-Rod in BA and SB's, and docking Beltran some HR's he should get, but I don't want you complaining). Breaking that down, the only category A-Rod wins is HR, by 10. Beltran has him by a huge margin in SB's (those 20+ extra SB's are worth about as much as A-Rod's 45 HR's by themself), and he has a slight advantage in both R's and RBI's as well. Please explain where I'm off in my projections, and how in the world A-Rod is even close to being as valuable as Beltran.

LBJackal ..
We can discuss this agin come October ..

I just showed you a situation where grabbing Beltran and Rolen, the next best availble 3B, will not even earn you the same as Arod and Cabrera, a player I might add you could possibly grab in the 3rd round.

It amazes me that you continue to downgrade everything Arod does (BA, SB) even though he hits right smack in the middle of the most prolific offense in baseball, and in the most slanted divsion in baseball. But in turn, upgrade everything Beltran does, even though he will now be playing in the toughest divsion in baseball, and is switching to a hitters park.

Wouldn't the best pick, be the player who earns the most in 5x5 roto? Pujols was 1st last year, and in the last 3 years, his 3 year value earned is 1st.
