Durable players to bump up on your cheat sheets

I still can't entirely justify taking Tejada 4th or 5th overall (as many are doing) but you sure have to like the durability of the guy. He's not just an everyday player, he literally plays every day. He has sat out just 5 games in the past 6 seasons and since 2000 has played over 700 straight games.

Now I know there's no 100% guarantee you get 162 games out of Tejada in 2005 but it's almost as certain as night follows day. For that reason alone, you can draft Tejada in the 1st round with confidence, even without those SB and the expected drop in RBI's.

For what its worth, and again I realise there's no guarantee of 160 odd game seasons (Garet Anderson is a perfect example of this in 2004), following is a list of guys that year after year front up every day to play.

Shawn Green
Jeff Bagwell
Juan Pierre
Bobby Abreu
Derek Lee
Tony Batista
A-Rod
Michael Young
Ichiro Suzuki
Orlando Cabrera
Andruw Jones

and in the past two seasons Aubrey Huff and Hideki Matsui.

Admitedly Batista has limited fantasy value but a number of others on that list will be undervalued this season and should be bumped up due to their durability.

Durable pitchers get no mention

Livan Hernandez and Mark Buerhle are both excellent workhorses.

I will no longer upgrade for durability, but will downgrade if a guy is injury prone. I'm still kicking myself for drafting Magglio over Bonds last year partially due to his durability. Grabbed Sexson in the same draft.

I know about Batista, hence my limited fantasy value comment, still 154 plus games in 5 straight seasons is a good effort.

And didn't Kevin Millar sign a 2 year contract to play in Japan in January 2003 ;-) He's been killing it in Tokyo the last two seasons hasn't he ;-7

Good point.

Barry Zito, Tom Glavine and Russ Ortiz are three more.

That's head in the sand stuff.

If you do it one way, you have to do it both.

For every Magglio Ordonez hard luck story, there's a JD Drew one as well.
