Do you think that he will produce as good, better, or worse stats this year? Most importantly, can he put up as good stolen base numbers?

Depends on that knee and how it holds up as well as how
Ken Gimpey fares this year. I think it's still reasonable for
Freel to get 400+AB if he stays healthy with (25) SBs being
quite reasonable.

Everyone tells me that Freel will undoubtably be a bench player at best.

I'm a big a Ryan Freel fan as there is, but unless there 1 or 2 major injuries on the Reds team this year (not out of the question), he won't see significant playing time. Unless, of course, the Reds wake up and realize he's a better option at 2B than D'Angelo Jimenez. :-[

He doesn't have a starting spot and Wily Mo will be the first one off the bench. Unless a MI or Randa get hurt he won't see much time. That and the fact that he is coming off of knee surgery does not make be think he will be a fantasy factor.

Decent batting average, speed, and a little pop in his bat, but the thing that catches my eye is all those walks. If he ever did start, he seems to have potential as a great leadoff batter.

He's not a starter? That's annoying.

Is he kind of like Chone Figgins was last year - he wasnt a starter but filled in everywhere.

If you're curious to hear more about the Red's from spring
training camp:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/radio ... rchive.jsp

Scroll down to February 23rd to:
"Mike Siano checks in from Reds camp"

At about 4:50 in the interview is where Freel is addressed.
It starts off talking about the outfield and then pitching.

Unfortunately, looks like Freel is still set for utility.

Jimenez is as solid as they come. Decent ave, homers, rbi, walks and steals. Nothing spectacular, but solid. I would favor starting Freel at third over Randa...c'mon, Randa? He sux.

Freel is looking at 300 AB and 15 steals unless injuries allow him to get playing time.
